To my students, parents, grandparents, and piano-loving friends: Welcome back to Fall 2022 Piano Lessons!

I can’t believe it’s already time to be planning piano lessons for Fall! My 2022-2023 teaching year will begin on October 1st to allow everyone some flexibility in adapting to irregular start dates in our schools.

You’ll notice a number of changes in place when you come back to my teaching studio. No new students will be accepted into my studio without parent and student agreeing to the following practices:

  • The two pianos in the room have been moved side by side lengthwise in the room. This places the student at one piano and me at the other exactly six feet apart.
  • A sneeze-guard barrier is mounted between the pianos.
  • I direct with a long baton, I can demonstrate technique from a distance and we can enjoy playing all duets together on the two pianos instead of side by side on a bench.
  • I have added an air purifier to the room.
  • Masks are mandatory.
  • Hands washed thoroughly before lessons. Hand sanitizer is available.
  • Piano keys are cleaned with alcohol solution after each student and keys are sanitized between the keys at the end of each day with an ultra violet light.
  • The student uses sanitized pens to write directions themselves in their own books. No loaners this year so be sure needed music is brought to the lesson.
  • Students tab their own music and handle their own music throughout their lesson.
  • A period of ten to fifteen minutes will be in my schedule to allow one student to leave before the other arrives and to give me time to sanitize the room, bathroom, entry doors, etc. between students.
  • No toys will be available for siblings who wait.

These are the safety measures and guidelines I have taken to make my studio safe for everyone during this pandemic. I have taught about a dozen students this summer with success and feel my new arrangement will continue to work well.
